its about time project

the beginning

second attempt

Eight Changes:
adding
I added pins that align with spine of the animal

Then I added hemp string and twisted them around
the pins
Next, I painted the soap with acrylic green paint.

With the wet paint and a little water, I added soap shaving onto
the soap
Then once the soap shavings were on the soap I wrapped
masking tape all around it.

subtracting
First I chopped off all of the legs.

Then I chopped off the snout of the animal.

Next I chopped off the neck and some of the soap shavings
Then I removed more of the soap shavings

Then, with all the soap cravings I created a coat
since people like to wear sheep's fur in coats and sweaters.

I wanted to change the soap form as much as possible and from the beginning I knew that I wanted to use the soap shavings for something. I think that it is ironic that I ended up picking an animal thats fur is acutally used for sweaters and coats, it wasnt intentional at first, but I like the way it came out all together as a whole. Craving the soap was not the easiest thing but it was much easier with my second attempt even though both of my soaps were different. My first soap was a harder more dense soap and the second one was soft and had a strong fragrance in it, which made it hard to work with.

memento

"The souvenir distinguishes the experience."

This quote stood out to me because I am always trying to collect as many objects as I can from the experiences I go through in life. This quote reminded me of traveling places. Whenever I traveled somewhere wether i was younger or even now, I also try to have an object represent the places that I've been, to show, or remind myself that I've been there. Wether it was money from a foreign country or a key chain that said where I visited. When first hearing what we had to do for this assignment I began to think of a souvenir that was significant to my childhood.

Experience to my piece.

This piece resembles when i was younger in 3rd grade. At my school that year we opened a time capsule. The last time it has been opened was in the 40's. So in there were many toys that the students used in that time period. There were also a lot of class photos of all the students that attended there then. I created this time capsule to remind myself of what this memento experience was like. Instead of having memorabilia inside the capsule I put paper on the outside as well. Also a time capsule is meant to secure things over a massive amount of time. I made mine not so concealed.
